Arizer Solo 3 vs DaVinci IQ2 Review: 3-Hour Battery vs Zirconia Flavor Path
Share
Short answer: the Arizer Solo 3 is built around runtime and a glass path: Arizer rates it at up to three hours per charge, with a wide range of swappable stems. The DaVinci IQ2 is a slimmer, conduction-heated portable with a zirconia air path, a five-level airflow dial and a removable 18650 battery that DaVinci lists at about an hour of use. Choose the Solo 3 for long, simple sessions; choose the IQ2 if compact size and an adjustable draw appeal more.
We sell the Arizer Solo 3 V2.0 but not DaVinci devices. The DaVinci details below come from DaVinci's own product page and FAQ. At the time of writing, every IQ2 variant is listed as sold out on DaVinci's site, so check availability before you plan around it. DaVinci also now sells the IQ3, which it describes as larger than the IQ2, with a longer battery life and a 0.7 g oven, so the IQ2 is best seen as the compact option in the range.
Heating and vapor path
- Solo 3 V2.0: 80% convection / 20% conduction hybrid heater, 5–15 seconds to temperature, and an all-glass path. Arizer lists temperature control in 1° and 10° steps with three programmable presets and both Session and On Demand modes.
- DaVinci IQ2: a glass-lined oven with conduction heating. DaVinci describes an airtight air path made of glass and zirconia ceramic, Smart Paths temperature control, and a range up to 430 °F. Its FAQ gives an average heat-up of 24–30 seconds, while its spec listing says under a minute.
Both aim for clean flavor. The Solo 3's stems can be swapped to change how warm or cool the vapor feels; the IQ2's zirconia path is part of the device's design, and DaVinci's FAQ says the oven bowl is not removable.
Airflow
This is the IQ2's signature feature. Its Air Dial adjusts draw resistance across five levels: turn it one way for an airier pull, the other for a tighter one. The Solo 3 does not have a dial. Instead, airflow changes with the stem you choose. XL and high-airflow tubes open up the draw, while longer or bead-filled stems add cooling. Our airflow guide explains how the Arizer system works.
Battery and charging
| Arizer Solo 3 V2.0 | DaVinci IQ2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | Internal; replaced via Arizer | Removable 18650 |
| Runtime | Up to 3 hours, or 100+ On Demand draws (Arizer) | About 1 hour (DaVinci) |
| Charging | USB-C PD, use while charging | DaVinci lists about 6 hours in the device |
| Oven | Standard or XL glass tube | 0.5 g oven, plus 0.2 g capsule option |
| Weight | 280 g (Arizer) | 159 g (DaVinci) |
| Warranty | Lifetime heater, 2-year limited, 1-year battery; glass excluded | 10 years (DaVinci listing) |
The Solo 3's headline advantage is runtime and quick charging, backed by passthrough use. The IQ2's replaceable battery helps only if you buy and carry spares.
Size and portability
The IQ2 is the more compact device: DaVinci lists 4.5 × 9.2 × 2.5 cm and 159 g in a brushed aluminium body. The Solo 3 is heavier and needs a glass stem sticking out of the top, so it is better for home, car or bag than for a trouser pocket. If you want to shrink it, use a short 70 mm or 40 mm stem, such as the classic 70 mm or the Stealth micro stem, together with silicone stem caps and travel tubes.
Cleaning and maintenance
On the Solo 3, most of the mess is in the glass: rinse or soak it in isopropyl alcohol, wash with warm water, dry it, and brush the oven. Because stems are inexpensive relative to the device, many owners keep a spare set. On the IQ2, DaVinci's FAQ says the oven bowl is not removable, so it has to be cleaned in place.
Accessories: where the Solo 3 pulls ahead
- Cooling: Ultra dry cooling stem, Vortex spiral stem and Aura bead stem.
- Water: multi-fit XL WPA or a Cascade XL side bubbler.
- Kits: the Pro Master Accessory Kit or Armor-Wrap stems for spares.
- Upkeep: backspacers, screens, O-rings.
Everything lives in the Solo 3 collection.
